Connections to Mary Draper Ingles

Part 1

I’ve known for awhile that my family was loosely connected to Mary Draper Ingles, but I didn’t know how. I’m piecing it together this morning. I am a direct descendant of Reuben Steele and Hannah Crockett, shown in this chart. I am a descendant of Jane Steele’s brother Robert. Here is what I have found so far:

Trans-Allegheny Pioneers author John Hale was a descendant of Mary Draper Ingles. You may already know about her. If not, the story is easy to find. As the years have gone by, the narrative has been challenged, but I do not yet have an opinion about it.

Michael Griffith, a poster on Ancestry.com, had this document publicly posted on his page. I assume it is in the public domain. The author is not indicated. However, I am passing it on in case you want to learn more. Since most of you are members of Ancestry, you may be able to find this yourself.
