Katherine Jane “Kitty” Hicks Skaggs, 1765 – 5 Jul 1851, Old Greenbrier Baptist Church Cemetery, Alderson, Greenbrier County, West Virginia. There is a tombstone that was added long after her death with incorrect death date. I have included a statement about this and an 1850 census record showing her in the household of her son John Jr. Her name is sometimes spelled with a C (census and church records) and sometimes with a K (tombstone). Her daughter Catherine’s name was spelled with a C in legal documents. She and John Skaggs Sr. had 12 children. Only five of them are linked on this memorial. Catherine Hicks Skaggs had siblings named Mordecai, Sarah, Susannah, Nancy, Elizabeth, William, and Richard. This is known from the pension application of the deceased Mordecai Hicks. I do not have proof of her parents. Many researchers insist on giving John Skaggs the middle name of Henry, but I know of no source for that.
