Many of the names of early settlers of Augusta County can be found in later records of Greenbrier, Monroe, and surrounding counties, so I have been looking at Augusta sources lately.
Because I just wrote a newsletter proclaiming courage an admirable trait, I felt I should balance that with an excerpt from Supplement to the Annals of Augusta County. Much of the following is based on records kept by a Samuel Houston. He was born before 1760, so he could not be the same minister whose Civil War diary can be found in the History of Monroe County. The man mentioned below was about the same age as Gen. Sam Houston’s father, but I don’t think he was a minister. I would very much like to get the Houston family sorted out!
