Kanawha County Withrow Autobiography

Patrick Withrow

I joined the Kanawha County Family Genealogical Society a few days ago and saw some information about a Withrow with whom I was unfamiliar. His name was Patrick Withrow, and there is an autobiographical account of him in a book called God’s Changing Power. I do not know anything about the book except the pages that were posted, but I will try to find out.

This Kanawha County preacher, Patrick Withrow, is shown in the 1900 census as the son of Joseph S. Withrow. His stepmother is listed; according to his own account Patrick’s mother died when he was young.

According to contributor Denver Monk, Joseph Withrow was a descendant of William S. Withrow (1763-1836), who was son of Robert Withrow II (1723-1797), son of Robert Withrow I (1692-1742). I cannot yet verify the missing links between Joseph Withrow and William S. Withrow because my records do not agree with Mr. Monk’s. I would like to try to sort this out with more documentation in the coming days. In particular, Mr.Monk has some middle names that don’t agree with what I have.

However, I was very touched by Patrick Withrow’s testimony and wanted to make sure my fellow Withrow descendants knew about him and the ministry in which he was involved.
