The cover photo I have posted shows one of my grandsons exploring a creek near my home in Texas. I posted it because it reminds me of one of the highlights of my childhood playing in Sugar Creek near the home of my great-grandmother Armintia Mabel Skaggs on our visit there in 1954. However, I don’t have a photo of my own “creek” event.
As I mentioned in my previous newsletter, my parents took me back to West Virginia in the summer of 1954. My brother Ken had just been born, and they wanted to make sure my great-grandmother, Armintia Mabel Skaggs, got to meet him. I cannot remember if I had met her in 1952 or not, but I definitely do remember this meeting in 1954. As I understood it, she lived “on Sugar Creek”. I think some considered that to be “Marvel”. I sure wish I had a better photo of her meeting my brother and me. Unfortunately, that was the last time I got to see her since she died in 1956. I had just finished first grade in Texas, but I remember I was told about her death and felt sad.
