Slavery in Southern West Virginia, Part 1
Information from History of Fayette County, West Virginia
In this new series of posts, I will try to share as many documents as possible on all aspects of Southern West Virginia slavery prior to 1865. These posts will be for paid subscribers, but I will indicate my sources in the introduction, so you can look them up yourself if you are a free subscriber.
First I will look at available information in county histories. Some of these can be found at FamilySearch.org (where you will need to sign in first) and others may be at archive.org. I will later look at Federal Slave Schedules, Census records, and wills of slave owners, in addition to other sources I deem relevant.
