Virginians Reborn: Anglican Monopoly, Evangelical Dissent, and the Rise of the Baptists in the Late Eighteenth Century
A Review
I purchased this book a few months ago and, though it is very academic, I appreciate the insights of the author, Jewel L. Spangler, as she points out how Baptists thrived in the era of the Revolution. I have chosen to include a review of the book from the Journal of Baptist Studies, but there are other reviews online. It might be interesting to compare them. I do think the struggle for independence from both the government and the Church of England is an important topic that provides a window into the actions and thinking of many of our ancestors. KB
