I keep hearing complaints about people named Josiah Francis Meador or Meadows being confused with other people. Let me just say that I do not have any way of sorting this out since this is not my family. I only know of one Jeremiah Meadow that married into the Steele family, and I understand he was quite a character. I don’t think he’s part of the current confusion.
Those of you who get bothered by the mix-ups are going to have to figure this out and spell out your case. I am pretty sure there are many men with similar or same names. Happens all the time, so please don’t come after me if you think I’ve posted something incorrect. I am relying on what descendants have posted on Find-A-Grave, especially when supporting documents are included. I assume if there’s a government marker, that the information is correct.
JOSIAH
JEREMIAH
Jeremiah Meadows is the only Meadows connection to my family that I know of. I am interested in the Josiah Meador/Meadows who gave testimony about the death of Mordecai Hicks. That’s the only other one I’m interested in, and I think he’s the one connected to the Lilley family.
Francis Meadows is one person, he came from Rockingham Co., Virginia and moved to Monroe County. Josiah Meador is another person and came from southern Virginia, perhaps Essex or Caroline County. There are two Francis Meadows, Sr and Jr. Sr never left Rockingham County. Francis Jr moved to Monroe County where he died years later. Too many people want to combine the two individuals. Good research will confirm this. Don’t depend on Find A Grave, too many people add unproven information.
